NEW PRE K-12 Grant Program Guidelines Approved 4/20/2010

We still have a few requests in process from the 2010 Fiscal year but are working diligently to get them sent out as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We processed 1600 requests last year between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010 and look forward to helping as many Tribal Students as we can in the up-coming year.

 The Organic Garden Project

This spring at the Whirling Thunder property, Woody White started an organic garden project with the vision of providing culturally relevant learning opportunities to the community. The idea was to have any Tribal Members who were willing to spend some time on working the fields would recieve not only experience and instruction in the growing of organic produce, but also benefit by learning how this relates culturally to the Ho-Chunk people. Of course, harvest time will yield its own benefits as well.

Currently there are several Sweet Corn, Potato, Tomato, Lettuce and Pepper varieties being grown. To find out more, to inquire about visiting the garden or to offer your help, contact Woody White at the Department of Education. He looks forward to hearing from everyone.
